The Brown Sugar Funk Show

Andy P started dj-ing professionally in 1983, aged 15, as a mobile dj with brother-from-another-mother Dave Kay as part of 2 Shades. Inspired by his dad who ran a successful reggae sound system, he travelled with, and gained an unorthodox apprenticeship in music with Croydon based sound system (SIR RADICS).

By 1989 he was established as resident in The SWAN and SUGARLOAF, heralded for its wild weekend sessions as the House Music movement exploded into life. Along with good friend and fellow dj, Moon Andy aka MooNMaN, he pioneered the transition of the 414 Club, (formerly STEPPERS) in Coldharbour Lane, Brixton, from reggae club to underground dance music venue, after being approached by the owner. Local club and bar residencies followed with a 3 year spot at TXT BAR in South Croydon between 1998-2001.

Andy spent the summer of 2001 partying and dj-ing to the kids in Majorca, playing in BANANAS , TOKIO JOES and alongside the legendary Des Mitchell at the BCM. Time spent away from dj-ing was replaced with time gigging with rock-indie band JUNKTIMEPARTY before a return to the turntables, teaming up once again with MooNMaN, putting on Moon-P parties locally. For the last 3 years Andy has produced his own radio show on a Sunday morning where he plays the best in funky house, soul, hip-hop, electro, broken beats, retro, boogie and what he calls Future Funk Andy started the FUNK’D UP parties at The Bulls Head in Croydon, quickly evolving into the FUNK’D UP BOAT PARTIES which he puts on twice a year.
